Kagelelo is a Professional Town and Regional Planner, registered with the South African Council for Town Planners. He has more than 20 years worth of experience within the local government sector which span across Land Use Management, Spatial Planning, Economic Development, Tourism, Housing Development, Project Management, Financial Management, Procurement, Agriculture and Rural Development. He has served both the City of Johannesburg and Midvaal Local Municipality in various work assignments and have occupied positions from being a Senior Town Planner, Specialist Strategic Planner, Manager: Land Use Management, Director for Local Economic Development, Director in the Office of the Mayor and Executive Director for Development and Planning. He is the Director and Founder of KTI Development Planners specialising in Town Planning Consultancy, Project Management, Property Development and Economic Development.
He have acquired a B-Tech Degree in Town and Regional Planning (University of Johannesburg), Masters of Town and Regional Planning (University of Pretoria) and Magister Commercii in Local Economic Development (University of Johannesburg). I’m a PhD candidate in the School of Built Environment and Engineering, University of Johannesburg. Kagelelo is the chair of the Advisory Board for the school of Town and Regional Planning at the University of Johannesburg. Since January 2023, he has been employed on a part-time basis by the University of Johannesburg to assist with the Honours and Masters students Research Modules which include lecturing and research supervision. He had the honour of being invited to present at the University of Johannesburg Young Planners Conference and at the UJ Conversation Series as a guest Speaker on the topic: The collapse of leadership and governance in South African Municipalities; Community upheaval brewing: where is the hope?
His career highlight depicts achievements and contributions made to the successful implementation of the programmes and projects which include among others: Chairing of Bid Adjudication Committee, Bid Evaluation Committee, Construction of informal trading stalls, Formulation of policy documents, LED Strategy, Completion of the Integrated Development Plan, formulation of the Human Settlement Plan, conducting media interviews, Kgatelopele Youth Development Programme, arranging public participation engagements and establishment of stakeholder forums. Kagelelo is committed to make a difference in society by imparting his knowledge and experience to the upcoming graduates and professionals through practice, mentorship and academia.
